A reflective look at how working across Sustainability, Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Innovation has shaped my approach to solving problems — and how this integrated view benefits clients and mentees today.
I still remember Orientation Day in 2011—wide-eyed, fresh out of grad school, stepping onto the manufacturing floor at Optical Communication Company I started with, armed with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Columbia and a Bachelor’s from City College of New York, I thought I knew how to solve problems. But that day, I quickly learned that true impact is built from the ground up—one process, one person, one improvement at a time.
Over the next 14 years, my career unfolded in unexpected and deeply formative ways. I moved from the rhythms of manufacturing to the foresight of marketing technology strategy—each pivot pushing me to connect data with people, and systems with purpose. I’ve led Six Sigma projects that saved millions. I’ve brought early-stage innovations to life, transformed voice-of-customer insights into next-gen solutions, and built high-retention, diverse engineering teams by design—not by default.
My journey across SEM²I—Sustainability, Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Innovation—was never a straight line. But every role taught me to speak multiple “languages”: the precision of an engineer, the urgency of an operation manager, the vision of a strategist, and the empathy of a mentor.
In 2025, this journey was honored when I was named a Black Engineer of the Year – Modern Day Technology Leader. It wasn’t just a personal milestone—it was a moment to reflect on how far representation, resilience, and reinvention can take you.
Today, I bring this integrated perspective to every room I walk into.
Whether I’m consulting for a client, designing inclusive STEM programs, or mentoring first-gen engineering students, I draw from a career that bridges disciplines—and humanizes innovation.
Because solving complex problems isn’t just about being smart. It’s about being whole.
